Ishwar Chander Sardana on Tuesday took charge as the chairman of the Nangal Improvement Trust. Industry Minister Madan Mohan Mittal, Deputy Speaker Dinesh Singh, state BJP general secretary Dinesh Kumar and assistant media adviser to Punjab Government Vineet Joshi were present at the charge-taking ceremony. Mittal said a unit of National Fertiliser Limited would soon be expanded to generate more employment opportunities.

BJP burns Kejri's effigy

Members of the BJP, led by Sangrur-1 district president Capt Ram Singh, on Tuesday burnt an effigy of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in front of the police station here. They alleged that former AAP member and music composer Vishal Dadlani had “hurt religious sentiments”  of the people with his objectionable tweet against Jain monk Tarun Sagar.

9-year-old raped  

A nine-year-old differently abled girl was on Tuesday allegedly raped by a youth of Ramdev Nagar here. The Dalit girl was left by the culprit near her house after an hour. She told her parents that the youth intercepted her when she was going to a shop. He took her to a field located outside the colony and raped her. The parents got her admitted to the Civil Hospital. On receiving the information, legislator Sunil Jakhar visited the hospital and spoke to DSP AR Sharma. 

2 booked for kidnapping

The city police on Monday booked two sons of a businessman, Shivam Chhabra and Sagar Chhabra, for allegedly kidnapping their staff member Naresh Narang of Kamboj Mohalla to their godown located on the outskirts of the town last week and thrashing him. He was later abandoned on a road from where some passersby took him to the Civil Hospital. The accused alleged that Naresh had misappropriated some money which the latter denied.

A district-level tree plantation programme was organised at the Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday. A marathon was flagged off by District and Sessions Judge Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Deputy Commissioner Karnesh Sharma.
