Kunwar Singh, chairman of the Gramin Vikas Samiti, demanded that sale of liquor be strictly prohibited in Uttarakhand on the lines of Bihar. He expressed concern that youths in a large number had become addicted to liquor. He stated this while addressing mediapersons here today.

Kunwar said the Congress-led state government should draft a proposal to ban the sale of liquor in Garhwal and Kumaon. “Youths in the state have become mentally and physically weak due to consumption of liquor. The crime rate has increased manifold over the years due to liquor consumption,” he added. He alleged the state government was supporting the liquor mafia. Govind Singh, Manjeet Singh, Tarachand, Vijay Prasad Bhatt, Sarla, Shilpa and Preeti were present.
