An ongoing controversy over a common passage at Miglani village, 25 km from here, claimed the life of a woman today. She was allegedly shot dead by three persons of the village. Her brother-in-law was injured in the firing.

The Verowal police have registered a case under Sections 302, 506 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against the accused.

Sources said the accused were Balkar Singh, his wife Maniderjit Kaur and Mannan Singh. Sarwan Singh, who was injured in the firing, told the police told that following a verbal duel over the common passage, Balkar Singh opened fire at them, killing Manjit Kaur on the spot. No one has been arrested so far.
