Keen to open its account in Uttar Pradesh in the 2017 Assembly elections, the state unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has submitted the first list of 25 candidates, including Sikhs, to the party leadership.

The SAD leadership has also approved of the structuring of the party organisation and filling the posts of office-bearers soon. The proposed structure provides for three vice-presidents, three general secretaries and equal number of secretaries and a treasurer-cum-media incharge.

The posts of the president of the youth and kisan (farmer) cells have also been approved. A provision for an 11-member committee has been okayed.

The list of candidates and organisational matters were finalised during a meeting between Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Badal and party head in UP, Dr Rai Singh, here. Rai Singh submitted the list of names during the meeting.

Rai Singh told The Tribune, “The names of candidates have been approved by the party leadership and will be announced soon.”

“The process to complete the second list is on,” Rai Singh added.
