Ruskin Bond’s book titled ‘A Book of Simple Living: Brief Notes from the Hills’ published by Speaking Tiger Publications was released at a small function at Cambridge Book Depot in Mussoorie today.

Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board member Sandeep Sahni and the publisher of the book Ravi Singh were present on the occasion.

Bond said the book is a personal diary that records small moments that constitute a life of harmony with the self, the natural world, and friends, family and passersby.

Bond while quoting from the book said, “Happiness is a mysterious thing, to be found sometimes between two little and too much. But it is as elusive as a butterfly, and we must never pursue it. If we stay very still it may come and settle on our hand, but briefly. We must savour those moments, for they will not come our way very often”.

Ravi Singh, publisher of the book, said he was delighted that Ruskin Bond’s first book published by his publication was released in Mussoorie. He added the book was based on Ruskin Bond’s lifetime experiences in hills and small towns of north India.

“Bond chronicles many small moments that constitute a life of peace with the self, the natural world, friends, family, and even strangers. In this title, readers will get to watch a wild plum blossom, see the luminous moon between two deodar trees, hear a redstart whistle and the rain drum on a tin roof, empathise with the ache of losing love, and the consolation of old friends during trying times,” added Ravi Singh.

He said he was looking forward to the success of the book that is also available in an e-book form for the readers of all ages. “Ruskin Bond is a writer of genius who never runs out of a story to tell, but still a modest man,” said Ravi Singh.
