Gurdaspur, August 23

The state government has sanctioned Rs 75 lakh for the installation of 1,000 CCTV cameras in the border districts of Gurdaspur, Batala and Pathankot.

SSPs Daljinder Singh Dhillon (Batala), Jasdeep Singh (Gurdaspur) and Rakesh Kaushal (Pathankot) have held a series of meetings regarding the project.

The Pathankot SSP said, “We have identified the spots where these cameras will be installed, including petrol pumps, state and national highways, hotels, banks, educational institutions and stadiums. Although the BSF has the infrastructure to keep track of infiltrators near the barbed-wire fence, the police will take their own measures to tighten vigil.”

A senior officer said the CCTV surveillance was necessitated by the Pathankot and Dinanagar terror attacks.
