Row over AAP nominee’s father

Rival parties have pointed out an alleged discrepancy in the affidavit filed by Baljinder Kaur, AAP candidate from the Talwandi Sabo seat.

She has mentioned Darshan Singh as her father. From 2007 to 2013, she had fought a legal battle, claiming to be the daughter of Amarjit Singh, who had adopted her in 1997 (Amarjit died in 2003).

In the court, she had submitted copies of her voter card and ration card, which both named Amarjit as her father.

Baljinder, who also fought the 2014 byelection from Talwandi Sabo, said, “Darshan Singh is my biological father. The court case was related to my adoption. My present ration card mentions Darshan Singh. My rivals are levelling false allegations against me.”

Returning Officer Subhash Khattak said, “We okayed Baljinder’s documents as the electoral rolls and Aadhaar card carry Darshan’s name. We told the people opposing her affidavit to approach the civil court.” — TNS
