Mandi, November 29

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has opened the Manali-Rohtang-Koksar road. The stretch was closed following heavy snowfall on Thursday.

Upper areas of Manali, including the Solang Nullah, Kothi, Gulaba, Marhi and Rohtang Pass, were covered with a thick layer of snow.

Col KP Rajendra Kumar, Commander, 38 Border Road Task Force (BRTF), Manali, said they had cleared the snow yesterday. There was delay due to strong breeze which brought back snow on the road, which was already cleared, he said.

Two teams were engaged in the snow-clearance operation on both sides of the road. The Rohtang Pass, the high altitude road link between Manali and Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti, remains closed during winter. Lahaul remains cut off for several months every year after snow blocks the 479-km Manali-Leh highway.
