Rohtak bids adieu to its BSF martyr

BSF Head Constable Rai Singh, who was killed in shelling by Pakistani forces in a ceasefire violation in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night, was cremated with state honours at his native Kheri Sampla village in Rohtak district today.

BSF Head Constable Rai Singh, who was killed in shelling by Pakistani forces in a ceasefire violation in the Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night, was cremated with state honours at his native Kheri Sampla village in Rohtak district today.

State police force and BSF troops fired shots in the air as a mark of respect for the martyr. BSF officials as well as state ministers, opposition leaders and other government functionaries paid their homage by placing wreaths before the mortal remains of the soldier.

Hitesh, martyr’s eldest son, performed the last rites.

Minister for Transport Krishan Lal Panwar, who was present at the cremation, announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the martyr, grant of government job to a family member, naming of a park after Rai Singh and installation of his statue.

A spokesman for the district administration said after instructions from the state authorities, compensation for the martyr's family was raised from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.
