Chamba, December 17

The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has decided to plant one lakh saplings along roadsides in Chamba district during the fiscal year.

This was stated by DRDA project officer Ramaiya Chauhan, while presiding over a one-day workshop on “Plantation work alongside roads” held today. The plantation would be carried out under the MGNREGA scheme, thereby bringing green cover on roadsides.

She said under the programme, five blocks, Chamba, Mehla, Bhattiyat, Salooni and Tissa, had been identified. She added that 20,000 saplings of different species would be planted in each block.

For the purpose, families would be selected under MGNREGA. Each of the identified families would plant 200 saplings of different species and take care of these for five years. The families would get wages for 365 days and also the rights of timber and fodder, she said.
