Chandigarh, April 20

The world-famous Rock Garden will get a new look soon as the administration is coming up with new projects to make it more attractive and visitor friendly. Besides new waterfalls, a museum of Nek Chand will also come up in the third phase of the Rock Garden. The new phase will also have the rag dolls village, a dream project of Nek Chand.

Anuj Saini, son of Nek Chand, said, “My father had made many dolls from unused clothes left by tailors. These dolls will be displayed at the Dolls Village and the visitors will get the glimpse of a village life.”

He said “We are planning to inaugurate the Dolls Village on June 12 — death anniversary of Nek Chand. A plan to open a new exit route for the visitors is also in progress. There is no exit route so far for the visitors and they have to return from the same gate from where they had entered. The third phase will also have a museum comprising personal collection of Nek Chand and the awards he had received during his lifetime. The bicycle which he used to carry the material to build the Rock Garden will also be on display.”

An official said “The Rock Garden is a world-famous tourist place and there is a huge footfall of visitors every day. The new facilities are being added to make it more attractive.”
