Chandigarh July 28

The state government has decided to hire 20 additional intercity air-conditioned Volvo or Mercedes Benz or Scania buses to meet the increased requirement of passengers, especially on the Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon route.

It will also create some new routes — Delhi-Sirsa, Chandigarh-Sirsa and Delhi-Jaipur. A spokesman said a proposal to this effect had been approved by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The Chief Minister has suggested that a few seats on the buses should be reserved for in-between destinations for which proportionate fare be charged.

He said the Haryana Roadways was operating 39 super luxury Mercedes Benz or Volvo buses on various routes, including Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon via Indira Gandi International Airport, Chandigarh-Hisar, Chandigarh-Rohtak-Mahendergarh-Jaipur, Gurgaon-Agra and Gurgaon-Haridwar-Dehradun. —TNS
