New Tehri, May 27

Chief Minister Harish Rawat while addressing a gathering during the Ghantakarn temple fair at Gaja in New Tehri today announced the construction of a 12-km road from Gaja to the temple.

He sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the beautification of the temple and approved a water pumping project. He said government high schools in the areas would soon be upgraded and all roads would be recarpeted.

He said the government was planning to give Rs 1,000 as pension to craftsmen in the state.

The Chief Minister said they would organise cultural fairs in Rishikesh and Jageshwar.

He, however, expressed concern over migration from the state and appealed to people to avail the benefits being given by the state government by staying in their respective native places.

The Chief Minister said the government was making efforts to provide markets to the farmers of the state by introducing public friendly schemes. He laid stress on water conservation through rainwater harvesting. He said 200 women would be linked with the master craft scheme to promote handicraft in the state.

Local MLA Subodh Uniyal also addressed the gathering. Earlier, the Chief Minister paid obeisance at the temple. District Magistrate, Tehri, Yugal Kishore Pant and several local Congress leaders were present on the occasion.
