To cater to the growing needs of a large number of pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine from the Malwa region, the Union Railway Ministry will soon extend the route of the Ferozepur-Jammu express train up to Katra.

This was stated by former state BJP chief Kamal Sharma after his meeting with Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Kumar Sinha today. Sharma, who was recently inducted into the party’s national executive body, said besides extending this train to Katra, Sinha also promised to start a regular train for Haridwar.

“At present, a holiday special train is being run up to Haridwar which will be converted into a regular train,” said Sharma.

“Besides Haridwar being a holy city, people of this part of the region have good business relations with the western part of Uttar Pradesh. At present, people are left with no other option than to travel in buses which consumes a lot of time. If the Ferozepur-Haridwar train is made to run on permanent basis, it will not only facilitate the passengers, but will also help Railways generate more revenue,” said Sharma.

He also demanded to change the timings of the Ferozepur-Chandigarh express train to suit the requirements of government employees, traders and student community who commute to the state capital on daily basis.

Kamal also met the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mahesh Sharma, and took up the matter to start “light and sound show” at the samadhi of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev in Hussainiwala.

Kamal said the proposal was under consideration of the ministry, adding the light and sound show would not only showcase the valour and courageous acts shown by freedom fighters but would also encourage the youth to follow the footsteps of the martyrs of the freedom struggle. — OC
