After the 2012 London Games courted controversy with most of the Indian contingent complaining the lack of proper vegetarian food, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has assured the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) that the athletes would get Indian food during the Rio Olympics.

The matter had been taken up by the IOA with the international body keeping in mind the sentiments and food requirements of the Indian contingent that would be participating in the quadrennial extravaganza scheduled to be held at Rio from August 5 to August 21.

A majority of the Indian sportspersons, who had participated in the 2012 Rio Olympics, had complained that they had not been able to get vegetarian food.

A contingent of around 100 sportspersons from Indian is expected to participate in the games. India’s Chef de Mission for Rio Olympics Rakesh Gupta said the Olympics organising committee had confirmed that Indian food would be provided to the athletes during their stay at Rio. He stated that the IOA would spare no effort to ensure that the athletes get proper food.
