Restore original Nanakshahi calendar, demand Sikh bodies

Several Sikh organisations today released the 2017-18 edition of the Nanakshahi calendar in its original format. As per the calendar, the Sikh New Year falls today.

The calendar was released by the Dal Khalsa at Akal Takht, the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) at Anandpur Sahib and the American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) in the US. They appealed to the SGPC to form consensus and adopt the original calendar and not the amended version.

The original calendar was introduced in 2003 by Canada-based Pal Singh Purewal. It was initially accepted by the SGPC, but later amended in 2010 on the instance of the Sant Samaj.
