Chandigarh, April 26

Several city residents, under the banner of the Solidarity Committee for Panjab University and College Students, took out a protest march from Sukhna Lake in support of the students protesting against the fee hike at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. They asked the PU to take back the fee hike.

Prof Manjit Singh said instead of raising fee, the PU must consult students, employees and teachers to devise other means of raising funds. “The PU administration must understand the nationwide attack on higher education, particularly on the public sector education,” said Prof Sukhdev Singh Sirsa, president, Punjabi Sahit Akademi.

3 more students seek bail

Three more students Harpreet Kaur, Gurpreet Singh and Varinder, accused of violence at Panjab University during a fee hike protest some days ago, filed pleas for anticipatory bail. Their bail plea was moved through the District Bar Association.
