Lahaul and Spiti Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia said rescue posts had been set up on both sides of the 13,050-foot-high Rohtang Pass from yesterday.

He confirmed that rescue teams reached each post at Marhi in Kullu district and Khoksar in Lahaul and Spiti district.

These posts are set up from November till March to assist the people crossing the snow-covered Rohtang Pass on foot, which is generally restored to traffic by first week of May.

Capt Randhir Salhuria, Director, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Allied Sports (ABVIAS), Manali, said each team consisted of a head instructor, experts from the ABVIAS, police personnel and a medical assistant.

The Director urged the people crossing over the Rohtang Pass on foot to get themselves registered at these rescue posts for their safety. He further advised the residents to cross the Pass in groups and avoid travelling in adverse weather conditions.
