Afghanistan lift tae kwon do title with 17 gold, 2 silver medals

Dehradun, December 21

Afghanistan won the 4th International Taekwondo Championship held at Pastel Weed College here today. In the finals of the championship, Afghanistan won 17 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. India stood second with 2 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals while Nepal was third with 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.

Earlier, in the final of the men’s senior category, Shakeeb (Afghanistan) won the gold medal, Himanshu (India) the silver medal and Purna Tamang (Nepal) won the bronze medal. In the men’s junior category, Mehandi Rehnati (Afghanistan) won gold while Heshmat Ulla (Kazakhstan) and Pradeep (India) won silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the final of girls’ junior category, Rabina (Afghanistan) won the gold medal, Madina (Tazakistan) won the silver medal while Sangeeta (India) won the bronze medal.

Chief guest Jitendra Joshi, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, gave away the awards to the winners. Suryakant Dhasmana, president of the Uttarakhand Taekwondo Association, and Jimmy. R. Jagtiani, general secretary of the Taekwondo Federation of India, were present on the occasion.
