Shahi Imam of Punjab Maulana Habib-ur-Rahman inaugurated the reconstructed mosque at Hans Kalan village in the district in the presence of a huge gathering of the village. Prayers were offered at the mosque after a gap of 67 years for the first time after 1947. Reconstructed by Al-Habib Charitable Trust along with active cooperation of the residents of the villages coming from all religions, the mosque was razed during the Partition. The Shahi Imam congratulated the people for the initiative and said it was an example of secularism and communal brotherhood.

 

Blood donation camp

 

The Manav Seva Uthan Parishad under the supervision of Anubhuti Bai organised a voluntary blood donation camp at Raj Hans Mandir, Upkar Nagar, Civil Lines, in association with Team Zindagi Live Foundation on Sunday. A total of 40 units of blood were donated on the occasion. The blood was collected by a team of doctors for the support of thalassemic patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals of Ludhiana. Speaking on the occasion the main ‘sewadar’, Anubhuti Bai, said this camp was organised as part of the initiative on the part of the spiritual leader Satpal Mahraj who had always shown them the path of service to humanity and the underprivileged. Ashok Marwaha of the foundation congratulated the mission for donating blood for thalassemic patients.

 

Union holds meeting

 

Meeting of the Water Supply and Sanitation Contractor Worker Union, Punjab, was held at Chatar Singh Park. Members of the union said their demands had not been met so they would hold protest rallies on December 22.

 

Ration distributed

 

Akhil Bhartiya Samaj Sewa Society distributed ration and items of daily needs at Swami Ved Bharti Ashram. As many as 31 needy women received the items of daily needs during the programme.

 

Recruitment camp

 

The business wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party organised a recruitment camp at Sunder Nagar. Rajesh Gupta, coordinator of the wing, was present on the occasion. Members of the BJPsaid businessmen joined the party. Parveen Bansal, district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was also present there.

 

Nagar kirtans held

 

To mark the Gurpurb of Shri Guru Gobind Singh, Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, E-Block of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, organised a nagar kirtan here on Sunday. Volunteers of the gurdwara cleaned the route of nagar kirtan and conveyed the message of keeping the surroundings clean.

 

The Shiromani Shaheed Baba Jeewan Singh Social and Foundation organised a nagar kirtan in the memory of Chaar Sahibzaade and Mata Gujri and Bhai Jaita Ji. The nagar kirtan started from Gurawala village and concluded at Gurdwara Katana Sahib.

 

Effigy burnt

 

The Indian Ekta Club on Sunday burnt the effigy of the District Administration and producers of Chinese kite strings at Shiv Ouuri Chowk. Tajinder Singh Rajan, president of the club, said though the district administration had banned the sale of Chinese kite strings, it was being sold openly. So, birds are becoming easy victims of plastic strings. The office-bearers and members of the club said the ban should be implemented strictly by the Police Department.

 

Sportsperson honoured

 

The Himachal Pariwar Sangathan honored Vikas Thakur, a silver medal winner in the Commonwealth Games, from Himachal Pradesh here on Sunday. All office-bearers of the Himachal Pariwar Sangathan were present on the occasion. Rajesh Bhardwaj, president, Himachal Pariwar Sangathan, said: “We feel proud on such sportspersons”. — TNS
