Rajeshwari, Pooja, Rajvinder bag judo gold medals

Players from 28 states showcased their judo skills on the second day of the National Judo Championship being organised at the Dev Sanskriti University sporting arena today.

In the women’s 52 kg event, O Rajeshwari from Manipur bagged the gold medal, defeating All India Police Sports Board contestant A Anita Chanu.

Mizoram’s Lal Hhyum Hitchi and Delhi’s Neha Thakur were adjudged joint bronze medalists.

In the 57 kg event, Pooja Sahapurkar from Karnataka clinched the gold medal, with the silver medalist being Shivani of All India Sports Board and the bronze medal going to T Sana Macha of Manipur.

In the 78 kg event, All India Police Sports Board’s Rajvinder Kaur won the gold medal, with Devi Shri getting the silver medal. The bronze medal was shared by Harpreet Kaur of Punjab and Central Reserve Police Force contestant Aarti Sharma.

In the men’s 66 kg event, Irom Singh of Seema Suraksha Bal won the gold medal, CISF’s Kishan Kumar won the bronze and All India Police Sports Board’s Hardeep shared the bronze with Ankit Bisht of Delhi state.

In the 73 kg event, Balvinder Singh of SSB, Karam Beer of Border Security Force and Pardeep of BISF won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the 100 kg event, Uday Veer Singh of BSF won the gold while Chand Kumar of SSB won the silver and the bronze went jointly to Punjab’s Jitendra and Sanjay Singh.

District Magistrate D Senthyl Pendiyan, Shamli (UP) District Magistrate NP Singh, Haridwar SSP Sweety Aggarwal, Dev Sanskriti University pro vice chancellor Dr Chinmay Pandya, divisional preacher Dr Harisj, Punjab National Bank circle head Punit Jain, Judo Federation of India president Mukesh Kumar, Swami Brahamchari Kailashanand Maharaj and organising committee president Rajiv Sharma gave away awards to the winners.
