Rainwater floods Y’nagar colonies

Yamunanagar, July 23

Residents of several colonies today blocked roads at four places after rainwater flooded their houses this morning here.

Raising anti-government and anti-administration slogans, the protesters demanded pumping out of the water from their colonies which damaged their household items.

According to information, several colonies, including Bank Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Luxmi Nagar, Tagore Garden, Camp, Durga Garden and Darwa were inundated after downpour.

Agitated residents took to the streets and blocked roads near Gobind Puri, Kamani Chowk, Gaba Palace on the ITI road and Lajpat Nagar.

“Overflowing rainwater entered our houses and damaged household items. There was a flood-like situation and our colony was cut off from other parts of the city. The government should install sewer lines and construct roads in every colony,” said Hari Narayan, a resident of Lajpat Nagar.

Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Das, Deputy Commissioner Dr SS Phulia and City Magistrate Bharat Bhushan Kaushik visited several colonies and took stock of the situation. —TNS
