In the wake of recent train accidents, the Railways has launched a month-long drive to inspect the tracks.

A high-level team, headed by Ambala Division Railway Manager (DRM) Dinesh Kumar, today conducted micro inspection of the tracks between Abohar and Sriganganagar.

Kumar said during the drive, the tracks would be inspected for fractures and other anomalies that become the root cause of accidents. He said the officers and workers can detect 95 per cent of rail fractures but the rest remain undetected and could trigger accidents. “Maximum fractures take place between 3-4 am when the temperature is the lowest,” he said.

Other officials who inspected the tracks included Assistant DRM Karan Singh, Divisional Commercial Manager Ashish Rai, Chief Engineer Paramjit Singh, Assistant Chief Engineer Ramesh Thapar and Railway Protection Force, Bathinda, in-charge Rajesh Rohilla.—OC
