Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated three projects for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Sunday from Chandigarh railway station.

The inauguration stone for a new 81-km railway line between Jind, Gohana and Sonipat was laid by the minister through video conferencing from the railway station. Prabhu also inaugurated a foot overbridge for platform number 4 and 5 in Sonipat.

Besides laying the foundation stone of a coaching-cum-maintenance facility at Chheharta station near Amritsar, a new daily passenger train was also flagged off by the minister.

The Railway Minister inaugurated a mechanised laundry at Chandigarh railway station, set up at a cost of Rs 1 crore. A new platform was also inaugurated. Four new escalators and lifts are also to be built at the station. A construction stone for 17 lifts and 10 escalators for various stations in Punjab and Haryana was also laid by the minister.
