A ragging case was registered against four second year students of Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) course and a hostel warden of Maharaja Agrasen University in Baddi today.

SP, Baddi, Basher Singh said two first-year students of the BHM course-Abhishek Sharma and Shushant Guleria, complained that senior students comprising Lavesh, Hitesh, Munish and Dogra forced them to jump from the fourth floor of the hostel building on Wednesday night and coerced to consume some sedative tablets.

They said later, the seniors along with a hostel warden entered their room in an inebriated condition and beat them. They also threatened them to remain silent.

The complainants also alleged that on Thursday morning they were again beaten up at the entry gate where Abhishek was attacked with an iron grip by Dogra and Shushant was hit with cudgels and chairs by the senior students, thus leaving them injured.

The students reported the matter to the police today and registered a case under Sections 452, 323, 506 and 34 of the IPC and Section 3(2) and 5 of the Prohibition of Ragging Act, 2009.

Ajay Poddar, Registrar of the university, said the university’s Anti-Ragging Committee was inquiring into the incident and they would submit their report tomorrow. Action against the students would be taken after the receipt of the report.

“Their parents have been called and informed about the incident. Issues like the role of a warden and the availability of liquor within the hostel premises are also being inquired by the committee,” he said.

He said it was surprising that the students had not approached the Anti-Ragging Committee to redress their grievance which could have handled the matter appropriately.
