Dehradun, July 15

Yoga guru Himanshu Saraswat has said the rising popularity of yoga was also resulting in emergence of quack teachers in the country. “It is a matter of grave concern,” he said at a press conference in Dehradun yesterday.

Saraswat said the number of yoga teachers had risen suddenly and many of them did not have even basic knowledge of the ancient practice. Such quacks are befooling people in the name of yoga.

Saraswat, who runs Yoga Alliance America certified courses in Dehradun, said a wrong posture in yoga could be catastrophic for both body and mind. “These days there has been a rising trend to practise power yoga. In fact, there are a few trained teachers who know power yoga,” he said.

He said yoga is far better than gym. “Gym only refreshes the body but yoga refreshes both mind and body,” Saraswat appreciated Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to promote yoga at the international level.
