Senators as well as various campus-based student organisations have been batting for a central university status for Panjab University in order to overcome the financial crisis being faced by the varsity. The proposal is all set to come up at the syndicate meeting of PU scheduled to be held tomorrow.
The proposal has come from Senator Dr Gurmeet Singh. Earlier, the proposal has been discussed at the senate meeting also. The meeting will be chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover.
Several other proposals will also come for discussion at the PU Syndicate meeting, including the seniority of professors and increase in charges of guest houses.
Panjab University will table a proposal for approval to apply for only four courses on one application and approval of fee for admission process through cloud-based online admission management services for selected courses for the academic session 2017-18 during the Syndicate meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow. The Syndicate will also discuss the proposal of the INMO awardees joining BSc (honours) in the department of mathematics without appearing for the PU-CET entrance test.
Appointment of persons who fulfil the eligibility conditions as per the UGC as part-time assistant professors at PU Regional Centre, Ludhiana, and appointment of Prof Nuruddin Farah as visiting professor from outside the country in the department of English and cultural studies will also come for discussion.
The proposal for reservation of two seats in the MDS courses for internal faculty candidates (to be given strictly on merit basis of NEET exam) will also be tabled. The proposal of assignment of faculties to certain fellows will also be tabled at the Syndicate meeting.
