Five prominent personalities will be conferred with an honorary degree by the Panjab University (PU) Chancellor, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, on March 25.

PU Vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover said he was trying to arrange special lectures of these dignitaries before or after the convocation was scheduled on the campus. He said the honorary degree of DLitt would be awarded to Nuruddin Farah here at the special convocation of the university who was not able to attend the convocation last time.

He said after receiving the confirmation from the Chancellor’s office, the university would sent the invites to all these dignitaries for their confirmation during the convocation.

The prominent dignitaries were Murli Manohar Joshi DLitt (Honoris Causa), Dr Narinder Singh Kapany DSc (Honoris Causa), Professor Gurdev Singh Khush: his name is proposed for DSc (Honoris Causa) and Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar: his name is proposed for Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa).

Hamid Ansari who will be present for 75 minutes during the convocation and will also give Kala Rattan, Sahitya Rattan and Vigyan Rattan awards to noted actor and PU alumnus Anupam Kher; noted litterateur and PU alumna Prof Dalip Kaur Tiwana; and Director, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advance Technology, Indore, and PU alumnus, Dr PD Gupta, respectively.
