Activists of the Nainisar Bachao Sangharsh Samiti and the Uttarkahand Parivartan Samiti were arrested when they were holding a rally and marching towards the Chief Minister’s house here today.
The activists were demanding quashing of the panchayat land allotted to a private residential school at Nainisar village to a private company in Almora district.
The activists gathered at Parade Ground and raised slogans against the state government, police and the district administration, as they were not allowed to go to the Chief Minister’s residence to hold a protest.
They alleged the government had allotted 352 nali to a private company for the construction of a private boarding school at Ranikhet, Almora, without their consent. They said they would continue the protest till the government quashes the contract.
PC Tewari, president of the Uttarakhand Parivartan Party, who led the march, alleged the Congress government had been arbitrarily allotting panchayat land to private companies.
