Chamba, April 24

The ADM of Bharmour has submitted the initial inquiry report to the Deputy Commissioner of Chamba into the loan amounting to Rs 1,405 crore advanced by banks to GMR Bajoli Holi Hydropower Private Ltd constructing the 180 mw Bajoli-Holi hydroelectric project in Bharmour.

DC Sudesh Mokhta statedthat the inquiry report had revealed that the loan taken by the GMR project management was against the land owned by the government.

The DC stated that it was evident from the preliminary investigation that about 6 km tunnel of the project was 200-225 metre beneath the surface of land. As such, the government was the sole owner of this land and the people had no ownership right on this land. The banks had misunderstood the fact. It was only the surface of the land which pertained to land owners, adding they could use it for any purpose.
