Priest found murdered at temple in Bhamia

A priest was found murdered in the Sanatan temple at Bharat Colony, Bhamia, this morning. The deceased, who has been identified as Ram Parkash Sharma, lived in a room at the temple.

Sources said the incident came to light when people came to pay obeisance at the temple in the morning.

On being informed, police officials, including DCP (Crime) Bhupinder Singh and ADCP (Crime) Balkar Singh, along with the Jamalpur police personnel, reached the spot.

The temple belongs to Sant Kirti Maharaj. After the death of Sant Kirti Maharaj about two years ago, the management of the temple appointed Ram Parkash Sharma as temple priest. He was also provided a room in the temple by the management.

When a woman came to pay obeisance at the temple in the morning, she found the priest, Ram Parkash Sharma, lying in a pool of blood in the courtyard of the temple. She raised the alam and later informed the police.

The police said the body of the priest bore injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon.

Bhupinder Singh said the police were working on various theories in this murder case. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered at the police station concerned.
