Dhuri (Sangrur), March 30

Senior Congress leaders are yet to begin an intensive poll campaign for byelection to the Dhuri Assembly constituency. However, PPP president Manpreet Badal today campaigned in at least six villages in favour of Congress candidate. This was Manpreet’s second appearance in five days.

Congress candidate Simar Partap Singh Barnala also accompanied Manpreet. Simar Pratap, who is a candidate of joint opposition, including the Congress, the SAD (Longowal) and the PPP, is contesting the byelection on Congress symbol.

Earlier on March 26, Manpreet had campaigned for Barnala in Jahangir, Ghanauri Kalan and Changli villages.

Manpreet today covered Maana, Eisi, Eisrra, Jainpur, Kherri Jattan and Dhadhogal villages. He made an emotional appeal to the people in the name of Punjab’s betterment.

Addressing gatherings, Manpreet called upon the people to recognise the value of their votes for bringing about a change in the state. He said it was a need of the hour that people should forget petty gains to work for a bigger cause.

Manpreet told the voters that they should vote for young and educated Simar Partap so that foundation for a change in the state could be laid for the 2017 Assembly elections.

Former Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla has been holding small meetings in Dhuri for the past three-four days to expedite Congress’ campaign in the town. Singla said the campaign would be strengthened after the arrival of senior Congress leaders in the constituency in a couple of days.
