Power snapped to 1,790 K’shetra defaulters

KURUKSHETRA: The UHBVN has disconnected power supply to 1,790 consumers for non-payment of electricity bills.

The UHBVN has disconnected power supply to 1,790 consumers for non-payment of electricity bills. Sources said the process to recover Rs 50 crore dues by March 31 was under way in Kurukshetra.

Various government departments in the district owe Rs 13 crore to the UHBVN.

The power utility has recovered Rs 83.86 lakh from 862 consumers since March 1.

The Public Health Department owes Rs 3.67 crore whereas the municipalities of Thanesar, Shahabad Markanda, Pehowa and Ladwa have outstanding electricity dues of Rs 7.86 crore. The Irrigation Department is yet clear pending dues worth Rs 23 lakh.

There are 23,928 power bill defaulters in rural areas of the district who owe Rs 12.21 crore to the UHBVN. Panchayats owe of Rs 45 lakh. The UHBVN has identified 11,488 power bill defaulters in the urban area who owe Rs 23.33 crore.

An official said notices had been sent to defaulters.

In February, the UHBVN suspended supply to Thanesar MC’s office for four days. An official said the municipal committees of Shahabad, Ladwa and Pehowa have assured to clear the pending dues in the next few days failing which due action would taken against them.

A UHBVN official said, “The administration has communicated to all government departments to ensure clearance by the month end. Government agencies should take the state government’s drive sincerely in making timely bill payments thus assisting the power companies in improving the power supply infrastructure.”
