Poster contest on drug threat organised at Dolphin Institute

With an aim to create awareness about the use of drugs, a poster presentation on “Say no to drugs” was organised at Dolphin (PG) Institute here today. Students from various departments like microbiology, biotechnology, pathology, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, physiotherapy, botany, zoology, chemistry, biochemistry and physics participated in the contest.

The Dolphin Students’ Welfare Committee (DSWC) and Anti Drug Cell (Nayi Pahal) have been jointly associated for the past several years in identifying drug addict students and counselling and motivating them to lead a drug free life and thus, bringing them back to the mainstream. The poster presentation was jointly organised by the DSWC and Anti Drug Cell.

A total of 57 posters were prepared by the students of various departments. The students expressed their views and opinions on the various negative aspects and consequences of drugs through colourful posters. Six posters were shortlisted by the panel of experts. Damini Nugte Tamin of the agriculture department got the first prize of Rs 5,100. Ella Molo of the horticulture department got the second prize of Rs 3,100 while Punyo Tasi and Mobyo Novin of the horticulture department got the third prize of Rs 2,100. A consolation prize of Rs 1,100 each was given to Neha Bisht of the biochemistry department, Fowang of the forestry department and Smritirekha and Chinar of the microbiology department.

Sweety Agarwal, SSP, Dehradun, gave away the prizes to the winners. In her address she said addiction of any kind was one of the main reasons of crime and road accidents. She said students were not to be blamed for this as they had been made addicts by drug peddlers for their own benefits. She said the police were committed to put an end to known and unknown source of drugs. She also circulated her contact number to all students and faculty of the institute, so that they can convey their suggestions in ways of controlling the drug addiction. She encouraged them not to be scared but rather give their support to the police. Chairman Arvind Gupta, Principal Shailja Pant, director Arun Kumar, dean DSWC Vipul Garg, faculty members of all departments and students were present on the occasion.
