Mansa, April 5

A team of the district police today reached the campus of Global Open University in Nagaland to look for fresh leads in the fake degree racket. The police have arrested Priyaranjan Trivedi, university’s pro vice chancellor, Azhar Ul Haqq, Bandana Singh and Jaya Ayer. Two other accused Roop Singh Joga and Navjinder Singh Deluana were arrested in November last year.
Sources said the matter came to light after Tarlochan Singh lodged a complaint with the Joga police on November, 20, 2012, alleging that he had paid Rs 40,000 to Global Open University for a graduation degree to get a gas agency allotted.
Tarlochan was allotted an agency in Jagraon, but following a complaint, the agency was cancelled after Tarlochan’s degree was found fake.
BS Khatra, Superintendent of Police, Mansa, said: “The university had issued fake certificates and degrees to students without conducting any exam. The fee was charged between Rs 9,000 and Rs 35,000. The accused have been taken into five-day police remand. All four accused were in Patiala to attend hearing in a court case on March 30 when we nabbed them from a hotel.”
