Dehradun, August 4

To tighten the noose around drug peddlers, several police teams conducted raids in slum areas along the Bindal river here today and arrested around 15 suspected individuals.

The police had a tip-off that children were being used to sell small sachets of hashish and other narcotic substances at the Bindal bridge. They conducted raids for nearly three hours in the slums and adjoining areas to apprehend drug peddlers. The police teams, accompanied by sniffer dogs and narcotics cell officials, thoroughly searched every nook and corner in the area to confiscate narcotic substances.

Later, SSP Sadanand Datte instructed police personnel to coordinate with chemists, school and college administrations, and NGOs to monitor the misuse of drugs by youths. He instructed them to regularly hold meeting with hostel owners so that drug peddlers could be easily arrested. Surprise checks would continue in the future, he added.
