Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh has lashed out at PM Narendra Modi for making a mockery of debt-ridden farmers. He dismissed Modi’s loan waiver promise to UP farmers as a poll gimmick with an eye on the votes of the farming community. Questioning the timing of Modi’s promise, Amarinder accused the PM of indulging in electoral politics at the cost of the lives of hundreds of farmers. Had the Centre been sincere about farmers, it would have - by now - waived their loans across the country, including Punjab, said the PPCC chief. Modi could easily have announced farm loan waiver on behalf of the Centre as was done by Manmohan Singh in the UPA regime, said Amarinder, recalling that the Congress had waived Rs 70,000 crore of farmers’ loans.  tns
