Daily wagers protest retrenchment

Hundreds of daily wagers of Council of Scientific & Industrial research- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) today staged a dharna in front of the office of Director of CSIR, Holta, at Palampur.

The workers were protesting the termination of services of their 130 co-workers by the authorities.

A spokesman for the workers said no notice was served by the authorities before their retrenchment.He said they would continue their protest till their services were restored.

Meanwhile, Dr Anil Sood, Director of CSIR, said the workers were recruited on daily basis. Since there was acute shortage of funds, therefore the authorities were left with no alternative except to terminate them. Their appointment letters had clearly indicated that they could be terminated at any time without prior notice, he added.
