Women’s body seeks fast track courts

Agitating members of Violence against Women Network staged a demonstration outside Gandhi Park here today.

Demanding formation of fast track courts for matters related to women, the members said the state government should start online registration of FIRs.

“The government should start two forensic laboratories in the state. Besides, colleges should have a compulsory subject on gender equality. Prepaid taxi booths should be set up at those places where taxis ply so that a record can be maintained,” said the members.

Among the other demands being raised by protesters included appointment of chairman of the Uttarakhand Women Commission.

The groups who were part of the demonstration included Uttarakhand Mahila Manch, Pragatisheel Mahila Manch, Dish, Astitva, Prayas, Janwadi Mahila Sangathan and Mahila Samakhya Uttarakhand along with several others.

Those who participated in the protest were Kamal Joshi, Virender Painyulli, Dr Anita Devi, Geeta Gairolla, Vandana Kandwal, Rajni Dimri along with several others.
