Governor KK Paul yesterday directed Additional Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy to ensure higher education for girls belonging to underprivileged families of remote hill areas from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of private universities in the state. The girl students should also be provided residential (hostel) facilities from the CSR fund, he said.

The Governor issued directions during a meeting at Raj Bhawan. He also sought detailed information regarding the action taken to resolve several pending issues related to universities in the state.

He said special financial arrangement should be ensured for research and other special areas in universities. Hostel facilities should be made available on a priority basis at the Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar (Pauri), as students would take admission in the university only when residential facility was available in this remote area, said Paul.

It is worth mentioning here that the Governor holds meetings after every three months with vice-chancellors of all universities in the state to discuss the strengthening of basic infrastructure and other system in the universities.

Besides, Paul also reviewed the action taken reports submitted by the vice-chancellors on the directions issued at the meetings held in the past. OSD and secretary to Governor, Arun Dhaundiyal, was also present on the occasion.

The next meeting would be held in August.
