PAU to publish biographies of legendary scientists

LUDHIANA: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will publish biographies of 18 eminent scientists to admire their contribution to agricultural research and society.

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will publish biographies of 18 eminent scientists to admire their contribution to agricultural research and society. The project is brainchild of Vice-Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, who wants to make the young scientists and students aware about the legendary scientists from the university.

It is worth mentioning here that PAU is known as the mother of green revolution and a major social and economic change had occurred in the state with the efforts of PAU scientists.

The biographies would reveal the glorious services of scientists to the farming community.

Teachers of Journalism Department have been collecting the information about the scientists. They have been interviewing scientists, their family members, friends, fellow scientists and students. The books would highlight the achievements of scientists and their contribution to society. Two books are under publication process while experts have been working on the six others biographies.

Dr Sarbajit Singh has been working on the life and contribution of Dr Khem Singh Gill (ex vice-chancellor) world famous agronomist and geneticist Dr GS Khush, who developed several high yielding verities of rice.

While Dr Narinderpal Singh writing biography of Dr Dev Raj Bhumbla, scientist of Soil Science and eminent Entomologist Avtar Singh.

Dr Ashoo Toor has been working on the biography of eminent Plant Breeder Dr Dilbag Singh Athwal and Extension Education expert Dr TS Sohal. Dr Sheetal Thapar another teacher writing biography of Dr GS Kalkat (ex vice-chancellor) and veteran Economist Dr SS Johl. Dr Jagdish Kaur has been working on the legendary administrator and second vice chancellor of University Dr MS Randhawa.

The Department Of Journalism at PAU will also write the biographies of following scientists Dr AS Kahlon (economist), Dr SS Prihar (soil scientist) Dr NS Randhawa (social scientist), Dr SK Vasal (plant breeder) , Dr GC Bakhshi, Dr BP Pal, Dr DS Dev (animal science) and Dr KS Nandpuri (horticulture).
