PAU bags best centre award

LUDHIANA: The all India co-ordinated research projects on fodder crops and utilisation (AICRP-FCU) in the forage and millet section, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred the best centre award - kharif 2016 during the annual group meet held at CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Palampur, on April 18.

The all India co-ordinated research projects on fodder crops and utilisation (AICRP-FCU) in the forage and millet section, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been conferred the best centre award - kharif 2016 during the annual group meet held at CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Palampur, on April 18.

Out of the 24 different coordinating centres funded by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) for forage improvement work in the country, the work of AICRP-FCU, PAU, Ludhiana, was adjudged the best.

Dr US Tiwana, Dr Rahul Kapoor, Meenakshi Goyal and Ashlesha Singla participated in the annual group meet and received the award. The all-India coordinated research project on forage crops was sanctioned to PAU in 1987-88. The section has developed 52 improved varieties of different forage crops and 58 agronomic, besides 13 plant protection and two forage evaluation technologies, for dairy farmers. PAU has released two oat varieties — OL 1802 (central zone) and OL 1804 (north east zone) along with one Bajra Napier Hybrid cultivar PBN 342 (north west zone, north east zone and south zone) — at the national level during 2016-17.

The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr BS Dhillon, congratulated the team for bringing laurels to the university.
