Jalandhar, April 27

Five activists of the Punjab Parents Association, including its president Kamaldeep Singh, have been booked by the city police for protesting against school fee hike.

An FIR was lodged this evening after a preliminary inquiry by the city police on the complaint of Dhilwan International Public School. The FIR also mentions 25 other unidentified parents.

On April 17, over 300 parents had gathered outside the school and locked its gate. The management alleged that they disrupted the school functioning.

Kamaldeep Singh said: “We are being targeted by the school and threatened to withdraw our agitation.”

Satinder Singh Chadha, ACP, said: “The FIR has been lodged based on criminal complaints against the association members. They locked up staff and children. They also blocked the road. These are criminal offences.”

Later, parents gathered at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall to take out a candlelight march to the residence of Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri here this evening. However, they were stopped by the police at Namdev Chowk and were not able to meet Beri. — TNS
