Up in arms against the problems being faced by Pong Dam oustees in their rehabilitation in Rajasthan, the Pong Dam Oustees’ Samiti (PDOS) today convened its meeting at Jawali which was presided over by its senior vice-president Hans Raj Chowdhary.

The samiti in its meeting expressed its anguish against the Rajasthan Government and the Central High Power Committee constituted for the rehabilitation of Pong Dam oustees for allegedly suppressing their rights.

Later, samiti vice-president Hans Raj said the land being allotted to the displaced population in Ramgarh, Mohangarh and Nachna tehsils of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan was without any basic amenities as it was in desert and not conducive for human life. He said the area was without irrigation, health and school facilities. The samiti had highlighted the plight of oustees before the state government so many times but without any result.

The state government had failed to intervene and raise the issue with the Rajasthan Government. As a result, local people were forcibly taking possession of the land allotted to Pong Dam oustees there, Hans Raj added. He threatened to boycott the Assembly poll if the state government failed to solve rehabilitation problems of the displaced people in Rajasthan.
