An overflowing sewer pipeline near the residence of Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi, at Bala Hissar here, is causing inconvenience to area residents and passersby, especially schoolchildren.

According to area residents, they undergo a harrowing experience whenever they travel on the road due to the overflowing sewer pipeline near Joshi’s house at Bala Hissar in Mussoorie. Schoolchildren have to walk with their noses covered with handkerchiefs due to the foul smell emanating from the sewer pipeline, especially during morning hours.

They have written about the problem to the Jal Sansthan and the Municipal Council but no action has been initiated so far. Jal Sansthan officials washed their hands of the matter saying the overflowing pipeline did not fall under their jurisdiction and belonged to private owners.

The area residents, namely Prem Chand Goyal, Sunil Goyal, Rajendar and Suresh Goyal, said if the overflowing pipeline was not repaired immediately, it could lead to a major epidemic. The Municipal Council could impose a fine on the private owners of the damaged sewer pipeline and send a notice to them but it had not taken any action against them, they added.

Joshi said he was not aware of the matter and would try to get the problem rectified without delay.
