Dehradun, March 28

ONGC’s expedition to the Mount Everest was flagged off in New Delhi today. This is a first of its kind initiative undertaken by any corporate so far to scale the Mount Everest— the highest place on the Earth at an altitude of 8,848 mts.

According to information provided by ONGC headquarters in Dehradun, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, who flagged off the ONGC Everest Expedition in Delhi, said that it would indeed be a matter of pride for not only ONGC but also the entire nation, once the expedition team comes back with flying colours. He also appreciated the inclusion of two women ONGC executives in the expedition team. He said such initiatives would set the benchmarks for other corporates to emulate. ONGC’s chairman-cum-managing director DK Sarraf said the expedition of this nature needs enormous courage, conviction and discipline.

Capt SK Sangwan, manager, human resource, ONGC, is leading the 11-member contingent under the expert guidance of Padma awardee Loveraj Singh Dharamshkatu, Assistant Commandant, BSF, from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
