Jammu, August 13

Claiming that only a few employees have registered on the Aadhaar-based attendance web portal, the Jammu University (JU) has asked all heads of department, rectors and directors of various offsite campuses and controlling offices to ensure the registration of all employees on the portal by August 16 for implementation of the biometric attendance system in the university at the earliest.

Sources said the circular was earlier issued by the university authorities on June 22 for registration of all JU employees on the web portal developed by the NIC, but the response was poor.

They added that most of the employees were informed about the circular, but due to alleged delay in registration on the web portal, the system was yet to be fully implemented.

“Through the medium of this circular, all concerned are once again requested to ensure the registration of all employees in the web portal so that the biometric attendance system may be implemented in the university at the earliest,” said a JU circular.

“The decision of introducing the Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system in government offices was taken to ensure punctuality of employees. There are some government offices where biometric machines have been installed, but employees are yet to register themselves, causing inordinate delay in implementation of the system,” a source said.

As part of the Digital India Programme of the Government of India, it was decided to implement a common Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system.
