Dehradun, December 5

After drawing flak from the Nainital High Court and the government, the degree colleges may soon introduce the biometric attendance system at the colleges to ease the problems of storing, monitoring and retrieving attendance data of the staff.

A letter was sent to the colleges from the government on Wednesday directing them to implement the High Court’s order regarding the introduction of biometric attendance system in colleges.

Consequently, four main degree colleges in Dehradun have started gearing up to switch over from the age-old register attendance system to biometric attendance system.

DAV PG College is going to introduce the biometric attendance system for teachers and the staff from December 8 and the attendance registers will be removed from the colleges from December 15.

College Principal Devendra Bhasin informed that thumb impressions of college teachers and other staff members would be taken on December 5 and 6 and be installed in the biometric machines.

On the other hand, DBS PG College management has decided to do away with the old attendance system and bring in the biometric attendance system in the college from December 13.

MKP PG College and SGRR PG College will switch over to biometric attendance system before December 10.

A hearing on the biometric attendance system in colleges is scheduled in the High Court on December 16 and the government will file a detailed report in the court regarding the implementation of the court’s order.
