The BJP government has failed to complete any big development project in the district in the past two years. The only achievement of the government has been starting the work on the Government Girls College building in Guhla segment.

As many as 23 development projects announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for Kalayat area just two months ago are at the estimation stage. The four-laning of the Kaithal-Karnal state highway at a cost of Rs 138 crore is yet to make any headway and the work has reportedly been transferred to the Karnal PWD circle for execution.

During his visits to the district, the Chief Minister had announced 110 projects. Out of these, only eight had been completed and work had been initiated on 27 others. As many as seven projects were found to be “non feasible” and the remaining projects are yet to see the light of day.

Two prestigious projects — setting up of Regional Centre of Lala Lajpat Rai Veterinary Science University in Keorak village and Mahrishi Valmiki Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Mundri village — remain mere announcements as land could not be transferred by the village panchayats to the departments concerned.

Interestingly, nine projects were announced for Keorak, a village adopted by the Chief Minister, but work on widening of the Keorak– Geong road was started recently.

Many projects, which were started by the previous Congress government have been abandoned due to lack of funds. Rs 4.50 crore City Bank Square and multi-storey parking projects also faced paucity of funds.

Shortage of doctors and paramedical staff has affected health services and even the government announcement to upgrade District Hospital to 200-bed still remains fulfilled.

Ram Niwas Mittal, former chairman, Kaithal Municipal Council, expressed concern over poor sanitary conditions in the town. Stray animal menace remains a major issue for people.
