Jammu, December 9

BJP state general secretary Dr Narinder Singh congratulated the members of the Labana community of the state for getting Other Backward Class (OBC) status.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre had fulfilled the promise made to the people while campaigning for the 2014 elections.

Singh said the decision of the Union government for including the Labana community in the OBC category would provide more opportunities for education and employment, thus proving a boon for them. He added that the Labana community had been agitating since long for the OBC status, but the successive governments in the past did nothing in practical and played lip service.

“Our party had gone to seek votes in 2014 from these people with a sole commitment of meeting their pending and genuine demand and it is indeed a matter of satisfaction for the BJP that its government has fulfilled it,” he said, adding that the decision was also the reflection of the BJP and its government’s concern for the welfare and development of the weaker sections, who need concessions for their social and economic uplift.

Singh expressed hope that the community would be benefited by the decision. — TNS
